TOPSHAM — Irene Eleanor Chapman, 87, of Topsham, died peacefully June 8, with her son Michael by her side.

Chapman was born in Bath on March 14, 1928, the daughter of Alden P. and Irene (Miller) Denham. She grew up in Bath and graduated from Morse High School in 1945.

For 32 years, until retirement in 1989, she was employed as a telephone operator with Verizon.

Through the years, and especially in her last few months, she enjoyed spending time near Pemaquid Pond in Nobleboro.

Chapman was predeceased by her son, Dean Chapman, and her husbands, Al Chapman, of Bath, Henry Racine, of Topsham, and Bernard Murphy, of Lewiston.

She is survived by three children, Angela MacDonald, of Woolwich, Christie Delong, of Woolwich, and Michael Chapman, of Randolph; a sister, Beverly Hamilton, of Brunswick; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, several nieces and a nephew.

Chapman’s family extends thanks to her hospice and especially caregivers Melanie, Debby, Marsha and Cathy.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter, 383 U.S. Route 1, Suite 2C, Scarborough, ME 04074.
