KENNEBUNKPORT — Participants in the 13th annual George H.W. Bush Celebrity Golf Tournament managed to get in a few holes before they were sent scrambling by lightning and downpours.

Tuesday’s event at the Cape Arundel Golf Club served as a fundraiser for Gary’s House in Portland, which provides a place for families to stay when a loved one is hospitalized.

Tournament participants included former New England Patriots linebacker Matt Chatham, former Red Sox pitcher Luis Tiant, former Celtics player Walter McCarty, and two former Bruins, Derek Sanderson and Cleon Daskalaskis.

Susan Rouillard from Eastern Maine Health System says the event was successful despite the weather. Gary’s House is named for Gary Pike of Kennebunk, who was diagnosed at 18 with a rare form of cancer in 1989 and died two years later.
