HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth College is reinstating a policy that could block members of the fraternity that partly inspired the 1976 movie “Animal House” from living in its house after the school withdrew its recognition.
The fraternity lost its status as a recognized student organization in April after a string of disciplinary violations, including burning brands into the skin of new members.
On Monday, college officials said they are again barring students from living in unrecognized Greek organizations’ houses under a policy that had been in effect until 2011. But college rules also allow such organizations to rent their houses to recognized student groups, which Alpha Delta could do.
The fraternity’s attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday.
