J-1 foreign work and travel students, 3:30 p.m., welcome and orientation for seasonal workers in Old Orchard Beach. Hosted by the Community Watch Council, the town and the Chamber of Commerce and held at the Salvation Army Fellowship Hall, 2 Church St., Old Orchard Beach. Sessions are free and all foreign students and their sponsors, housing providers and employers are invited.

Medical and narcotic properties of marijuana, 9 a.m., part of a summer-long series of work groups related to policies and standards of the Maine employee drug testing law and medical marijuana in the workplace. Sessions will conclude in September and recommendations will be brought to the Legislature in January. Held at Department of Labor offices, 45 Commerce Drive, Augusta, and open to everyone. CareerCenters, part of the Maine Department of Labor, provides a variety of free services and workshops to help with job searches and to skill upgrades. Each of the 12 centers provides computer workstations and offers several employment-related programs throughout the month. The department’s Bureau of Labor Standards holds free safety courses for employers on a variety of topics at various statewide locations. Employers can find a schedule of classes and register at safetyworksmaine.com or call (877) 723-3345. Space is limited, so reservations are required.
