Kennebunk police have identified a woman they say was speaking in a rambling way about former President George H.W. Bush early Friday.

Police had asked for help from the public to identify the woman because the name she provided did not match what she said was her date of birth. The woman came into contact with police shortly after 6 a.m. Friday when they were asked to do a wellbeing check on a suspicious person at H.B. Provisions in Lower Village.

The woman was “rambling about former President Bush, being involved with the National Security Agency and being hired by the Bush family,” according to police.

“She wasn’t making a lot of sense and was obviously in distress,” said Detective Stephen Borst.

Police are not releasing the woman’s name.

The woman was taken to Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford for evaluation and the U.S. Secret Service was notified because the woman was talking about Bush. The woman did not make any threats and was not charged with any crimes, according to police.

Before she was identified, police said they believe the woman may be from the Washington, D.C., area.
