Three crashes on Interstate 295 northbound in South Portland tied up Friday rush-hour traffic.

Traffic was backed up when the crashes occurred between 4:30 and 5 p.m., but was moving smoothly again by 7 p.m., according to Trooper Jessica Shorey of the Maine State Police.

Shorey said all the crashes occurred at the beginning of I-295, between the toll booth at the entrance from the Maine Turnpike and around mile 4, where an exit takes drivers from the interstate and across a bridge to the Portland waterfront.

She said no one was injured in the crashes. Two of the crashes involved two vehicles each and the third involved three vehicles, she said.
