A Lyman man is in jail following his arrest for felony gun possession Saturday.

Maine State Trooper Benjamin Smith said George Jones, 45, was arrested after police received a report that Jones had been waving around a gun during an argument at his home on Barkers Pond Road Friday.

Jones was out on bail on an arrest for heroin trafficking and was not allowed to possess a gun under his bail conditions. Jones denied having a gun under questioning by Smith, Maine State Police Sgt. Jeremy Forbes and Trooper Adam Schmidt. A search found a rifle under a mattress in Jones’ bedroom, police said.

Jones is being held without bail at York County Jail. Maine Child Protective Services have been notified of the presence of children in the house during the argument, police said.
