BRUNSWICK — Barbara Ranger Moscato, 77, died at home on June 21, after a courageous battle with ALS.

She was born in Farmington on June 14, 1938, the daughter of Arthur and Doris Ranger.

Moscato attended Farmington schools, and in 1960 earned a bachelor of science degree in education from the University of Maine at Farmington. She went on to earn a master’s degree in New York.

Moscato lived in New York City for 35 years, working as an elementary school teacher in the public school system for 29 years. She retired to help take care of her first grandchild.

She moved back to Maine in 2002. In 2008, she married her best friend and partner of 30 years, Sal Moscato.

With an alumni group from UMF, Barbara traveled the world. Her destinations included England, France, Greece, Holland, Africa, Australia, Alaska and Canada.

She was very involved in the Brunswick community. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, participated in a high-school mentoring program, and served as an usher with Maine State Music Theatre. Moscato also was active in the Retired Teachers Association. In addition, she was a eucharistic minister at St. Charles Borromeo Church/All Saints Parish, and was active in the church’s Turner Family Group.

She also enjoyed gardening, reading, watching TV, sending cards to those in need, fishing, browsing yard sales and spending time with her family.

In addition to her husband, Moscato is survived by a daughter, Kathryn Buckley Jeffcoats, and her husband, Tim, of Greene; a brother, Eugene Ranger, and his wife, Meredith, of Farmington; and two grandchildren, Meghan and David.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated June 25 at St. Charles Borromeo Church.
