SCARBOROUGH — Theodore William Logan, 90, died June 26 at Piper Shores.

Logan was born May 30, 1925, to Frank and Ethel (Murtha) Logan, of Portland. After attending Portland schools, he entered the U.S. Army at age 17. Serving in a reconnaissance patrol attached to the 75th Infantry Division, Logan fought on the front lines of World War II from the Battle of the Bulge to the fall of Berlin.

After a lengthy recovery from rheumatic fever, Logan completed high school at Gould Academy. He then studied business at Babson College, where he competed on the ski and golf teams and played baseball.

He went on to join the family business, Theodore Logan & Son, a commercial painting contractor founded by his grandfather in 1880. Under Logan’s leadership, it became one of the most successful painting contractors in New England, and opened two painting and decorating stores in Portland and North Conway, New Hampshire.

A longtime resident of Scarborough, Logan was a member of the town’s Planning Board for many years, and served several terms as the board chairman. He was also a founding member of the Scarborough Economic Development Corp., which was incorporated in 1985.

In addition, Logan was a shareholder of Portland Associates, a real estate investment group that built and operated bowling alleys in Portland and South Portland. He also was an incorporator of South Portland Bank & Trust, and served as president of Pleasant Mountain Group, which owned and operated Pleasant Mountain Ski Area from the late 1960s to the mid-1980s.

Logan enjoyed sailing on Casco Bay, skiing and golf, and shared his love for these pastimes with his children. He also loved spending time with them at the family camp on Sebago Lake, and enjoyed traveling and wintering in Vero Beach, Florida, with his wife and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Joan (Logan) Hutchins; and his son-in-law, Jerry Daly.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Consuelo, and by his eight children: Ted Logan and his wife, Ellen Rosenthal, of Indianapolis; Dianne Logan, of South Portland; Anne Daly, of Scarborough; John Logan and his wife, Bebe, of Cape Elizabeth; Susan Evensen and her husband, Peter, of Southport, Connecticut; Carole Hackett and her husband, Peter, of North Yarmouth; Thomas Logan and his wife, Jeanne, of Park City, Utah; and Margaret and her husband, Andy Happel, of Scarborough.
