Nine members of the Scarborough Recreation Track Club competed in the Junior Olympics Region 1 track championship at Fitchburg State University in Massachusetts last week. Scarborough athletes accounted for five gold medals and 11 qualifying places. Emerson Flaker won the girls’ 7-8 age group 400 meter run in 1 minute, 16.01 seconds and the 800 in 2:54.83 seconds. Jarrett Flaker got gold in the boys’ 13-14 100 high hurdles (15.30) and was first in the 200 intermediate hurdles (27.45). Sam Rusak placed first in the boys’ 15-16 decathlon with a 10-event score of 5,451 points. The Flakers and Rusak will compete in the National Junior Olympics in Jacksonville.
