NEWRY (AP) — Maine wardens say a 14-year-old girl from New Hampshire was rescued from the Grafton Loop Trail in Maine after injuring her leg hiking.

Warden Brock Clukey says the Plymouth, New Hampshire, girl was carried off the trail in Newry on a litter at almost 10 p.m. Thursday because she couldn’t put any weight on one leg.

The Lewston Sun Journal reports rescuers were met by the girl’s mother, who transported her back to Plymouth for treatment.

Clukey did not identify the girl. He said she tore ligaments in a knee when she slipped and fell between a couple of rocks. She was carried about one mile to the trailhead.

He said the girl was with a group of teenagers and adult team leaders backpacking to Mount Katahdin.
