EAST BROOKFIELD, Mass. (AP) — The father of a 7-year-old boy who is suffering from starvation and dehydration is being held without bail after the child was brought to the hospital unconscious.

The Telegram & Gazette reports a hearing is scheduled Friday for 26-year-old Randall Lints, of Hardwick, to determine if he is too dangerous to be released. He is charged with assault and battery on a child with substantial injury, among others.

Police arrested Lints on Tuesday after his son was hospitalized weighing 38 pounds. Court documents show the child became unresponsive because he was starving and dehydrated.

Police say the boy also had bruises to his forehead and jaw and apparent bleach burns on his hands and knees.

A not guilty plea was entered on Lints’ behalf Wednesday in Western Worcester District Court.
