Mary Louise Liucci-Smith, author of “Maine Voices: There is a way out of domestic violence – even after 43-year marriage” (July 23) is an extraordinary woman.

There can be no doubt that her stirring and heartfelt words will help other women take the first steps toward freedom from the bondage of domestic violence.

I am sorry for the horrific violence that has been inflicted upon her and her children.

I thank her for putting aside her own pain, suffering and desire for privacy to reach out and help others.

She is making a difference.
