A 41-year-old Waterboro man faces charges of possessing child pornography, Maine State Police announced Monday.

Edward Vallee, a self-employed mason, was arrested Friday by members of the State Police Computer Crimes Unit on two counts of possessing sexually explicit material of someone under 12, police said.

Police began investigating Vallee after receiving a tip, they said.

A preliminary review of his computer showed thousands of images of child pornography, police said. None of the images appear to be children from Maine but police will not be certain until a complete examination of the computer is done, police said.

Vallee was taken to York County Jail in Alfred. He is scheduled to make a Sept. 23 appearance in York County Superior Court.
