The Texas Rangers agreed to a multiplayer deal with the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday night that will bring left-handed ace Cole Hamels, Jake Diekman and cash relief in exchange for a package of mostly prospects, major league sources confirmed.

The deal is still contingent upon medical review.

The Rangers will send left-hander Matt Harrison, Double-A outfielder Nick Williams, catcher Jorge Alfaro, a top prospect out for the season recovering from ankle surgery, right-hander Jerad Eickhoff and right-hander Alec Asher to the Phillies, sources confirmed.

A deal could be officially announced as early as Thursday.

METS-BREWERS: Multiple reports out of New York indicated the Brewers had worked out a deal with the Mets to send center fielder Carlos Gomez to the Mets.

The reports indicated the Brewers will receive Zack Wheeler, a highly regarded pitcher currently recovering from Tommy John surgery, and infielder Wilmer Flores.

Then, after the Mets’ game, Mets GM Sandy Alderson said there was no Gomez trade and wouldn’t be one.

DODGERS: Clayton Kershaw was scratched from his scheduled start against Oakland on Wednesday due to hip soreness.

Kershaw will start Friday in the Freeway Series opener against the Los Angeles Angels, the Dodgers said.

WHITE SOX: Chicago placed infielder Emilio Bonifacio on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained left oblique a night earlier.

The White Sox recalled infielder Leury Garcia from Triple-A Charlotte.

YANKEES: Left-hander Chris Capuano was designated for assignment after retiring only 2 of 10 batters he faced in a spot start Tuesday.

Right-hander Caleb Cotham, the Yankees’ fifth-round pick out of Vanderbilt in the 2009 draft, was brought up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

He made his major league debut in relief Wednesday night, pitching 12/3 innings. He allowed two hits and struck out four without allowing a run.

RANGERS: Veteran left-hander Wandy Rodriguez was designated for assignment by Texas, which recalled relievers Alex Claudio and Jon Edwards from Triple-A Round Rock.

DIAMONDBACKS: Arizona placed right-hander Randall Delgado on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right ankle and recalled right-hander Addison Reed from Triple-A Reno.

CUBS: Chicago placed right-handed relief pitcher Neil Ramirez on the 15-day disabled list with left abdominal soreness.

ANGELS: Mike Trout was out of the lineup for a second straight game against the Houston Astros with an injured left wrist.

Trout was hurt trying to make a diving catch in the fourth inning on Sunday in a 13-7 victory over Texas.
