One person was killed when a car and tractor-trailer truck collided Sunday afternoon in the Oxford County town of Buckfield.

The collision took place around 3:30 p.m. near the intersection of Route 117 and Turner Street, Sgt. Timothy Ontengco of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. Route 117 had to be closed following the accident.

The driver of the car died in the crash. The victim’s name is not being released until the next of kin has been notified, Ontengco said.

The driver of the truck was taken to a Lewiston hospital to be checked out, but that person’s injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Ontengco said troopers from the Maine State Police are assisting the county as the departments try to determine what caused the crash.
