NORTH YARMOUTH — A toilet paper toss, a frozen t-shirt contest, music, dancing and prizes will all be part of the third annual North Yarmouth Block Party, Saturday, Aug. 15.

The gathering organized by the North Yarmouth Events Committee begins at the Village Green at 5 p.m.

“It’s just a more interactive alternative to the summer concerts that we usually do,” committee Chairman Jason Raven said July 30.

Instead of a band, this event will feature DJ Mixx of All Access DJ, who will run a variety of party games, Raven said. DJ Mixx is actually Justin Dyer, who with wife Jess has served on the Events Committee.

Dyer will lead some interesting activities. Maestros of the toilet paper toss have to catch a roll on a plunger. In the frozen t-shirt contest, participants must thaw out the material enough to unfold it and, of course, put it on.

“It’s pretty comical watching them try to get the thing apart,” Raven said.

There’s also a freeze dancing competition, similar to musical chairs, and –Christian Dior beware – a game requiring players to dress themselves in unique thrift-shop offerings.

There will be prizes, including North Yarmouth Variety gift certificates and past Fun Day T-shirts.

“The main purpose is really to give a platform for local groups to do some fundraising,” Raven said, noting that the Greely Color Guard is already on board, and the event has opportunities for more groups, too.

“I’d love to get some scout groups, or churches, or other athletic teams or boosters, involved,” he said.

Those interested in taking part can reach Raven at 829-9393 or mr.corvus@gmail.com.

The event is free, thanks to many sponsors. Log onto the North Yarmouth Block Party page on Facebook for more information.
