AKRON, Ohio — Ronny Rodriguez singled to left to drive in Yandy Diaz with the go-ahead run as part of a two-run eighth inning Saturday night, and the Akron RubberDucks went on to a 5-3 victory against the Portland Sea Dogs at Canal Park.

Akron (60-54) has won the first two of the three-game series, dropping Portland (41-73) to 1-4 on a six-game trip.

In a 3-3 game, Diaz greeted reliever Jorge Marban (2-1) with a double to center in the eighth. Bradley Zimmer’s fly to center sent Diaz to third before a walk to Carlos Moncrief put runners at the corners for Rodriguez

His lined single scored Diaz with Moncrief stopping at second. Moncrief and Rodriguez broke on a double steal as Todd Hankins struck out, and Moncrief continued home when catcher Jordan Weems threw the ball away for the second time in the game.

Jeff Johnson struck out the side in the ninth for his 21st save. Jacob Lee (5-3) gave up two hits and a run in two innings.

The Sea Dogs jumped on Akron starter Jordan Cooper in the first. Carlos Asuaje lined the fourth pitch of the game to right for a single. Asuaje stole second, and then scored when Sam Travis singled to center. Travis took second on the throw home, stole third and scored on Tim Roberson’s single to left to make it 2-0.

Hankins got Akron’s first hit off Portland starter Luis Diaz, an RBI single in the bottom of the second. The RubberDucks then took a 3-2 lead with a two-run fifth, but Tzu-Wei Lin tied it in the seventh after reaching on a fielder’s choice. He raced to third on a Keury De La Cruz single, then scored on a wild pitch.
