A Westbrook man who was rescued Saturday after getting trapped on a sandbar off Hills Beach in Biddeford died Tuesday at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Jason Brawn, 46, died around 1 p.m., said a spokeswoman for the hospital.

Biddeford rescue workers said Brawn and a friend got caught on the sandbar during an incoming tide. When they tried swimming back to shore, both men started to struggle.

They were rescued by a Rhode Island man who went after them with his inflatable boat. Michael Maiewski, 32, of Eliot survived, but Brawn was taken to the hospital, where he remained in critical condition until he died.
