Artwork by both professional and student artists filled Mill Creek Park in South Portland Saturday for the city’s annual Art in the Park Show & Sale.
More than 175 artists were on hand to enjoy a perfect summer day under sunny skies. In addition, the show featured a tent filled with the artwork of South Portland students.
The event also featured a special story time with Maine author Tracy Kane, as well as the opportunity for kids to build their own fairy houses.
This year’s Best in Show award, which came with an $800 prize, went to Monique Sakellarios, while the Best in Photo award, which included a $500 prize, went to Charlie Widdis.
Immediately following the art show, the second annual Knightville Street Festival kicked off, which featured a variety of live performances, as well as food and crafts from local vendors.

Kit Pike, a South Portland artist, has taken part in the city’s annual Art in the Park for the past 20 years. What she likes about the show is the “fabulous location” and the intimacy of it. “It’s not too big,” she said. “It’s a nice, comfortable show.”
