A Biddeford man was arrested on felony drug charges after the car in which he was a passenger was stopped by police for a defective headlight.

Kyree Council, 26, was a riding in a 2001 Subaru Legacy with a broken headlight that Saco police officer Samuel Bennett pulled over just after midnight Tuesday on Main Street.

Council is on probation with a condition requiring him to submit to search and testing for drugs. During the traffic stop, Bennett removed Council from the car and found he was in possession of a small bag of Oxycodone and penicillin, according to police. After Council’s probation officer placed a hold on him, police brought him to the Saco Police Station for an additional search.

Police found 22.1 grams of heroin and 4 grams of cocaine in Council’s possession.

Council was charged with aggravated trafficking of schedule drugs, a class A felony. His bail was set at $25,000, but the probation hold forbids his release from custody.

Council is scheduled to appear in York County Superior Court on Sept. 25. He is being held at York County Jail.

The vehicle operator was warned for the defective headlight and released, according to police.
