SACO — John Notis of Saco passed away in Saco at the age of 93 after a brief illness. He was surrounded by family.

He was born in Saco to Andrew and Polixeni Notis and lived in Saco much of his adult life.

He graduated from Thornton Academy and Babson College with a degree in business, where he earned highest honors and the Roger Babson award.

He held various management positions in finance and IT at IBM, Scott Paper Company, Central Maine Power Company and retired as CFO and senior vice president of Operations of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Maine. He was also owner of several family owned restaurants in Maine, Massachusetts, and Poughkeepsie, New York.

He was a veteran of the Navy and proudly served aboard a carrier in the Pacific during World War II.

He and his wife loved to travel to Florida, where they spent winters at their home at Mt. Vernon in Bradenton, Florida for 25 years.

He was an avid sports enthusiast and loved playing baseball in high school and in college, riding his bike, and had a passion for playing tennis.

He will be missed by all.

He is preceded in death by: his wife of 75 years, Polly Notis; his brother, Steve Notis; and his sister, Sue Lano.

He is survived by: his daughter, Joan Vasilopoulos and her husband Costas of Plymouth, Massachusetts, their daughter, Elana Whelan and her husband Matthew; and by his son, Andy Notis and his wife Diana of Republic, Washington and their daughters Sarah Boyd and Katie Fowley and his son John Christopher Notis. He has four great-grandchildren, Nolan and Kiley Whelan and Kenny and Grace Boyd.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Cote Funeral Home, Saco.
