SHAPLEIGH — The Office of the Maine Medical Examiner was scheduled to perform an autopsy today to determine the cause of death of a New Hampshire man whose body was found in Square Pond Tuesday morning.

The man, identified by authorities as Richard Fraser, 65, of Manchester, New Hampshire, was found in nine feet of water 90 feet from shore on the Shapleigh side of the pond around 10 a.m.

York County Sheriff Bill King said Fraser, who either rented or owned a cottage on Treasure Island, went missing the previous evening. Family members looked for him but were unable to find him.

Treasure Island is located in Square Pond.

King said Fraser’s body was discovered on the bottom of the lake at about 10 a.m. Tuesday.

First responders from the Sheriff ’s Office, Maine Warden Service as well as Acton and Shapleigh rescue squads worked at the scene to recovery the body.
