From the Journal Tribune: “A home and barn at Flag Pond and Jenkins roads were destroyed by fire Friday afternoon as firefighters stayed with the blaze and smoldering ruins for more than five hours. … About 50 firefighters from Saco, Biddeford, Scarborough and Buxton responded to the scene. The State Fire Marshal inspected the scene and called the blaze accidental, attributing the cause to a cooking fire in the kitchen …”

From the Biddeford-Saco Journal: “At a staff meeting of the Happy Day Camp for boys yesterday Director William Earle announced the annual water festival will be held Monday, Aug. 30, at 2 p.m. at Paradise Pond. Over 75 boys will participate in swimming demonstrations starting with the basic skills through senior life saving.”

100 years ago

From the Biddeford Daily Journal: “The Old Orchard baseball team added another victory to their list this season at Sea Side park, Thursday afternoon, when they defeated the fast Fort Williams outfit … It was an interesting contest with plenty of features. McGuire turned in a sensational catch while the pitching of Walsh of the Old Orchard aggregation was of the kind which attracted attention.”
