CUMBERLAND — In a rematch of last season’s Western Class B boys’ soccer final, Yarmouth controlled the vast majority of play and beat rival Greely 2-0 on Tuesday.

Senior striker Jonathan Groothoff scored the first goal with 8:07 left in the first half, depositing a cross from his brother, Luke Groothoff, a sophomore midfielder.

Luke Groothoff sealed the win with 2:16 to play, knocking in a curving free kick into the top left corner from about 25 yards.

The Groothoffs moved to Yarmouth from Santa Rosa, California, over the summer.

Yarmouth (2-0) held a 16-4 shot advantage. Prior to the second goal, Yarmouth also had three second-half shots hit the goal frame and stay out – two by Luke Groothoff.

“It’s just one of those things you’ve just got to keep plugging away at,” Jonathan Groothoff said. “We were breaking them down. We had a lot of chances in the second half.”
