The leader of Maine’s Roman Catholics is selling his suburban home and moving back to the city.

The Falmouth home where Bishop Robert Deeley resides outside of Portland is up for sale. The four-bedroom colonial has a listing price of $659,000.

Deeley has been living in the home since the Diocese of Portland announced in 2011 it was selling a 16-room mansion in Portland in a cost-cutting move by then-Bishop Richard Malone. That home on the city’s upscale West End was built in 1900 and had nearly 7,000 square feet of living space.

Dave Guthro, spokesman for the diocese, confirmed the bishop plans to return to Portland but he declined to provide specifics. The diocese owns several properties in Portland.
