A Maine State Police trooper’s Standish home was broken into last week and the thief took three long-sleeve police uniform shirts, an old police ID card, his birth certificate and two handguns.
Investigators believe the burglary occurred while Trooper Joseph Bureau was doing his regular patrol shift and they believe that his home was targeted.
The guns, a Heckler & Koch .45-caliber and a Beretta 9 mm, were his private weapons and not issued by the state, though they resemble guns troopers had used in the past, according to a news release from police.
Police are trying to locate a young woman driving a dark-color four-door sedan. She had been parked in a neighbor’s driveway about 9 p.m. one night last week when the neighbor came home and spoke to her briefly, the release said. The release did not say what information she might have about the burglary.
Police ask that anyone with information call state police at 657-3030.
