A Fryeburg man faces charges of kidnapping and gross sexual assault after he allegedly held an 18-year-old woman against her will for several hours and forced her to have sex with him.

Fryeburg police surrounded a home at 399 Main St. at 10 p.m. Wednesday after receiving a tip from a friend of the woman.

“The victim had no cellphone service but was able reach out to a friend on social media using the Wi-Fi on her cellphone and alert her on the situation,” Police Chief Joshua Potvin said in a news release.

Police arrested Andrew Connelly, 29, on charges of kidnapping and gross sexual assault, both Class A felonies.

The woman was taken to Bridgton Hospital for treatment.

Connelly was taken to the Oxford County Jail. He made his first court appearance on Friday, WCSH-TV reported.

Connelly met the woman through an online dating website, police said.
