WRENTHAM, Mass. — The Massachusetts police officer charged with making up an account of being shot at while on duty has been granted $10,000 bail after pleading not guilty.
Officer Bryan Johnson of Millis was arraigned Friday in Wrentham District Court on charges of misleading a criminal investigation, communicating false information, malicious destruction of property and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
He was expected to make bail and be released on home confinement with GPS monitoring.
Johnson said a man in a pickup fired at his cruiser Sept. 2. He said he returned fire, crashed and his SUV caught fire.
An investigation determined his account was a hoax and Johnson shot his own vehicle. He later told investigators he blacked out.
His parents had no comment outside of court.
