GREENWOOD — Maine’s Mount Abram ski area boosted snowmaking last season. Now it’s planning to add trails – describing the expansion as the biggest since the 1970s.

The ski area said it expects to receive permits from the Maine Department of Environmental Protection in the next few weeks, in time for construction this fall.

General Manager Dave Scanlon said the focus is on improving the way skiers navigate and utilize the mountain.

He said in a statement that the trail expansion includes a dedicated ski-racing venue that’ll allow it to expand its racing program for middle and high schools. He said the ski trail Egomania will be expanded with an eye toward creating more beginner terrain. More advanced trails and connector trails also are planned.
