Two men robbed a cab driver of cash at knifepoint Saturday night and Portland police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspects.

Police say the robbery happened at 11:15 p.m. near the corner of Broadway and Carriage Lane.

Two men flagged down the cab and asked for a ride to the Riverton section of the city.

The ABC Taxi driver picked up the men at the Munjoy South apartment complex on Mountfort Street and drove them to Broadway and Carriage Lane, where, after the passengers got out, one of the men threatened the driver with a knife and demanded cash.

The men fled toward Forest Avenue, police said.

The robber with the knife is described as a black man in his early 20s, unshaven with hair plaited into cornrows and one red bead braided into it, police said. He is between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighs 150 to 170 pounds, and was wearing a Houston Astros ball cap, black pants and a green hooded sweatshirt, police said. The other person was a black man of similar height, unshaven and wearing a dark jacket, long pants and a ball cap backwards, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 874-8575.
