A Caribou man has been sentenced to 35 months in prison and three years of supervised release after federal agents found him in illegal possession of firearms.

George D. LaCasse, 35, was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Bangor by Judge John A. Woodcock, U.S. Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II said in a news release.

Delahanty said LaCasse, who is a convicted felon, arranged for another person to purchase a 9 mm pistol for him at Ben’s Trading Post in Presque Isle in May 2014. LaCasse was at the Trading Post when the firearm was purchased.

During the course of their investigation, federal agents also recovered 9 mm shell casings and other evidence that indicated he used the gun for target practice.

LaCasse was prohibited from possessing firearms because he had felony convictions in 2009 in Massachusetts.
