Fryeburg police are investigating the theft of $10,000 worth of medicinal marijuana from a home on Duck Cove Road.

The owner of the home at 38 Duck Cove Road notified police Thursday afternoon that someone had broken into the home and stolen the marijuana, said Police Chief Joshua Potvin in a press release.

According to Potvin, the suspect broke into the unoccupied home around 1:15 p.m., causing extensive damage and triggering the alarm system.

“Unfortunately, the homeowner thought it was a false alarm and canceled police response with the alarm company. It wasn’t until he arrived on scene several minutes later to find the place had been burglarized,” Potvin said.

Potvin said the marijuana was being grown and was legally possessed by the licensed caregiver. Anyone who has information about the theft or saw suspicious activity in that neighborhood should contact Fryeburg police at 935-3323.
