A Hancock County man was arrested Thursday on a federal court warrant on a charge of possession of child pornography.

Jack Palmer, 65, of Winter Harbor, pleaded not guilty to the charge later in the day in U.S. District Court in Bangor, where Magistrate Judge John Nivison ordered him held in custody pending a detention hearing on Monday.

Palmer was indicted by a federal grand jury Wednesday and a warrant was issued for his arrest, according to court records.

A copy of the indictment that was unsealed Thursday states only that Palmer’s alleged offense occurred on or about Oct. 23, 2014, and involved one or more sexually explicit images or videos of a child or children under the age of 12.

If convicted, Palmer faces up to 20 years in federal prison and a fine of as much as $250,000.
