The Maine Science Festival on Thursday announced that Nate Silver, a well-known psephologist and sabermetrician, will be headlining its second annual event in March.
“Who’s Silver, and what’s a psephologist?” you may ask.
Silver is a statistician and writer who analyzes elections (psephology) and baseball (sabermetrics). If you follow politics, it’s likely you know him as the founder of FiveThirtyEight.com. Silver gained recognition during the 2008 presidential election when he correctly predicted the results of the presidential election in 49 of 50 states, along with all 35 U.S. Senate races. The site was later hosted by The New York Times and is now under the ESPN umbrella.
“Continuing the tradition started last year, where we were honored to have Pixar Animation Studio’s Academy Award winning Tony DeRose as our first headliner, having Nate as part of the 2016 MSF will continue to highlight to all of us that science is everywhere,” the festival’s organizers said in a statement.
The Maine Science Festival, which held its inaugural event this year, will be held March 18-20, 2016, at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
