MONTPELIER, Vt. — Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin is getting married.

The governor’s office said Thursday that the 59-year-old Shumlin and Katie Hunt were recently engaged and they plan to marry within the next year, although they have not chosen a specific date.

After the governor leaves office in early 2017, they plan to make their home in Westminster West, in southern Vermont near where both Shumlin and Hunt grew up.

The governor’s office said the 31-year-old Hunt is an artist and landscape gardener currently finishing her degree at Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts.

Shumlin announced in 2013 that he and his first wife were divorcing. He has two adult daughters.

Shumlin said he and Hunt are happy to share the news of their upcoming marriage.
