DURHAM, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan is supporting Hillary Rodham Clinton for president.

The Democratic governor will join Clinton at the University of New Hampshire in Durham Friday to officially endorse the former first lady and secretary of state for president. Hassan is picking Clinton over five others seeking the Democratic nomination: U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, former senators Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island and Jim Webb of Virginia, and Harvard professor Lawrence Lessig.

Hassan calls Clinton a leader “that New Hampshire families need fighting for them.” She lauds Clinton’s plan to make college more affordable and her approach to fighting substance abuse, among other things.

Hassan, who is in her second term, is considering a run for U.S. Senate against Republican incumbent Kelly Ayotte.

Clinton will be at King Middle School in Portland this afternoon.
