Firefighters and supporters will climb the 11 flights of stairs at 2 Monument Square on Sunday 10 times, representing the 110 floors of the World Trade Center, which was destroyed in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

The event is to honor the 343 firefighters from the Fire Department of New York who died on 9/11. Funds raised through the event will be given to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, which provides assistance to families and colleagues of firefighters who have died in the line of duty.

The fee to participate in the event is $30 per person. Fire Chief Jerome LaMoria said about 70 people have signed up and he expects to have more than 100 when the event is held Sunday. Registration is at 7 a.m. and the climb begins at 9 a.m.
