JAY — A Wilton man has been charged with possession of heroin after the Jay Police Department followed up on a report of a vehicle driving erratically on Crash Road.

Police responded to a report Friday afternoon that a vehicle had swerved all over the road entering town and almost hit oncoming traffic head on.

The vehicle, driven by Jody Morris, 39, was stopped on Main Street shortly after the 2:11 p.m. erratic driving complaint came in. When arresting officer Stephanie Guillemette approached the vehicle, Morris failed to provide any forms of identification and incorrectly spelled the name he had identified himself as to the officer, leading to the discovery that Morris had provided false information, according to Detective Michael Mejia.

After  identifying Morris, police discovered that there was an active warrant out for his arrest for violation of bail on a previous drug possession charge. Guillemette found on Morris a usable amount of heroin as well as drug paraphernalia, Mejia said.

Morris was also charged with violation of conditional release, failure to provide correct name, possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia and operating under the influence.

Morris then suffered a medical emergency – Mejia didn’t know further details – and was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington before being taken to the Franklin County Jail, where he was booked Saturday.
