Police say they are puzzled by reports of a booming noise in Kennebunk and Kennebunkport on Thursday morning.
Police say they received a handful of telephone calls from residents and businesspeople asking about the noise.
In Kennebunk, a couple of people reported their houses shaking.
Kennebunk Police Lt. Eric O’Brien said that, for the time being, it’s a mystery. There were no obvious culprits, such as blasting for a construction site, he said.
In Kennebunk, the calls came from two areas of Route 1 at opposite ends of town.
“Between us and the fire department we checked all the areas and didn’t come up with anything,” said O’Brien.
