A three-vehicle accident on Lewiston Road in Mechanic Falls on Thursday led police to shut the road down for more than four hours.

The crash occurred at 2:23 p.m., when a dump truck rear-ended a pickup truck hauling a camper, and the camper hit a tractor-trailer that had stopped to make a turn, said Mechanic Falls Police Chief Jeff Goss.

Lewiston Road, part of Route 11/121, was closed because of debris in the road and didn’t reopen until 6:30 p.m.

Goss said the tractor-trailer, driven by Ravi Kumar, 33, of Storm Lake, Iowa, had slowed down to make a turn into the NEPW Logistics warehouse when it was hit.

Kumar was not injured, but the driver of the dump truck, Anthony Keach of Mechanic Falls, suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for observation.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
