ORONO — Mozai Nelson suffered a torn ACL during Maine’s football practice Tuesday and will require season-ending surgery.
The redshirt freshman had played in all three games for the Black Bears as a reserve safety, making six tackles.
In addition, strong safety Darrius Hart and middle linebacker Christophe Mulumba Tshimanga are expected to miss a third consecutive game when Maine visits Richmond on Saturday. Both are dealing with bruised legs. Hart is expected to undergo arthroscopic surgery soon.
