Question 2 is poorly written, and we should vote no. Below are just two reasons to vote against this referendum.

First, the ordinance requires a new task force, appointed solely by the mayor, to take up to three years to decide what areas of Portland should have their views protected.

Second, this referendum also grants power to a single person who believes his or her property is “affected” to delay a project and potentially block it. If your neighbor doesn’t like the new fence you are putting up, you could have a group of 7 city officials investigating you. Twenty unaffected people, who may not even own property in your neighborhood, can send you to the same panel.

That’s two great reasons of many.

And who is going to fund this panel and process? That’s more money taken away from issues far more important than this.

Vote no on Question 2.
