BELFAST — La Salle Academy’s girls’ cross country team dominated the Festival of Champions – the biggest regular-season race in the state – on Saturday at Troy Howard Middle School.

La Salle, from Providence, Rhode Island, had four of the top five runners to win the girls’ race with 30 points. Orono (130) was second, then Cumberland, Rhode Island (141).

Eliza Rego of La Salle easily won the girls race in 18:05.58 over 3.1 miles. Teammate Karina Tavaras finished second, 24 seconds back.

In the boys’ race, Scarborough had Andrew Sholl place fourth, Connor Doherty sixth and Colin Tardiff eighth to lead the Red Storm to the overall title with 120 points.

Cumberland, Rhode Island (162), was second and Falmouth (187) third.

Osman Doorow of Lewiston won the boys’ race in 15:50.05, ahead of runner-up Paul Cassavant of Hampden Academy (16:04.95).
