A Massachusetts man is facing multiple criminal charges after he allegedly rammed into a motorcyclist and fled the scene of the crash Monday morning in Gorham.

Patrick Litchfield, 23, of Burlington, Massachusetts, was later located by Gorham police, arrested and charged with criminal speeding, driving to endanger, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, leaving the scene of a personal injury crash, driving after his license was revoked, possession of heroin, and trafficking in dangerous knives.

In a news release, Lt. Christopher Sanborn said Officer Robert Henckel was on patrol on Route 25 in Gorham around 7 a.m. when a gold-colored sedan going 85 mph in a 50 mph zone passed him in the opposite direction.

Henckel turned his cruiser around to follow the car and stop the driver, but he came across a large amount of debris and a motorcycle resting beside the road.

The motorcycle rider, Jonathan Lord, 37, of Hiram, suffered injuries to his neck and head. Henckel provided medical assistance while waiting for an ambulance to arrive. Lord was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland. The extent of his injuries is not known. Gorham police shut down one lane of Route 25 for two hours.

An investigation determined that Litchfield’s rented vehicle collided with the rear end of the motorcycle.
