BURLINGTON, Vt. — Cassidy Svetek and Libby Reidl scored in the second half and Maine remained undefeated in conference play with a 3-1 win over Vermont in an America East field hockey game Sunday.

Svetek put in the rebound of a Casey Crowley shot 5:01 into the second half to give the Black Bears (12-2, 3-0 America East) a 2-0 lead. Taylor Gaines put Vermont (3-11, 1-3) on the board with a rebound goal, but Reidl scored from close range in the 57th minute to restore the two-goal lead.

It was the fifth straight win for Maine, which opened the scoring on Sydney Vlejacic’s unassisted goal in the first half.

Emma Cochran and Emily Corbett split time in goal for Maine, combining for four saves.

WESTERN CONNECTICUT STATE 2, USM 1: Jenny Cappello scored the tiebreaking goal off a penalty corner with about 12 minutes remaining as the Colonials (4-8, 2-5 Little East) edged the Huskies (5-9, 2-5) at Danbury, Connecticut.

Allison Ward put USM ahead in the ninth minute, converting a feed from Jessica Boghosian off a penalty corner. Caitlin Ogrizovich tied it six minutes later.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

MAINE 1, UMBC 0: Charlene Achille converted a penalty kick in the 71st minute, and the Black Bears (7-5-1, 2-1-1 America East) outlasted the Retrievers (3-9-3, 1-2-2) at Orono.

Maine’s Claudia Dube-Trempe stopped four shots.

BABSON 3, BOWDOIN 2: Olivia Kerester’s goal with 6:01 left gave the Beavers (10-2-3) a come-from behind win over the Polar Bears (5-4-1) at Babson Park, Massachusetts.

Taylor Haist and Lauren McLaughlin scored for Bowdoin.

SOUTHERN MAINE C.C. 4, UMAINE-PRESQUE ISLE 0: Zyrah Giustra had a pair of unassisted goals in a span of six minutes to lead the Seawolves (7-1-1) to a win over the Owls (4-7-1) at South Portland.

Kym Hendrix and Sarah Clough added a goal apiece.

UMAINE-PRESQUE ISLE 3, SOUTHERN MAINE C.C. 0: Mohamud Abukar scored a pair of unassisted goals as the Owls (1-11-1) rolled past the Seawolves (6-4-1) at South Portland.

Drew Martin made eight saves for SMCC.
