State police say a Plymouth man was arrested Thursday after he led a trooper on a car chase in Saco and then ran off into a swamp.

Kevin Switzer, 28, was charged with eluding a police officer and aggravated driving after revocation of his license.

Trooper Christopher Rogers stopped Switzer on the Saco spur off the Maine Turnpike, on suspicion that Switzer had a revoked driver’s license. As Rogers got out of his car, Switzer drove off, police said, starting a chase that continued onto Route 1 in Saco and ended at the back of the Hannaford supermarket on Route 1, where Switzer’s car was found.

The trooper saw Switzer in a boggy area behind the building and arrested him after chasing him in waist-high mud.

Switzer was taken to the Saco Police Department and is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 20. His driving record indicates his license was revoked for failure to pay fines and an accumulation of points on his license.
