BETHEL — Authorities say they’ve made an arrest in connection with a hit-and-run accident in Bethel that seriously injured a teenage bicyclist.

Police arrested Richard Marin, 45, of Bethel and charged him with leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.

Officials on Sunday said the bicyclist is a 14-year-old boy from Goffstown, New Hampshire, who is in critical condition at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Investigators said the boy was hit Friday afternoon while riding his bike on Church Street in Bethel.

“I find extremely troubling that somebody would know that they hit a person and not stop and try to (lend) some sort of assistance or call the proper authorities,” Oxford County Sheriff Wayne Gallant told WCSH-TV on Sunday. “It’s heart-wrenching to think that a 14-year-old child is fighting for his life right now.”

The sheriff’s office says multiple tips led to the garage in Bethel where they found the vehicle described by witnesses to the accident.

Marin is being held at the Oxford County Jail on $10,000 bail. It was not immediately known if he has a lawyer.
