BATH — With its fundraising deadline less than a month away, United Way of Midcoast Maine’s annual campaign has reached 60 percent of its goal.

The “Together We Can”-themed effort raised $1.15 million of its $1.9 million goal as of Oct. 14. The extra large “Live United” T-shirt worn at a campaign breakfast by Co-Chairs Lennie Burke and Bob Beaumont of Brunswick – who are also united in marriage – further illustrated the organization’s goal.

Th United Way supports social service agencies in Sagadahoc and Lincoln counties, and Brunswick and Harpswell in Cumberland County. Proceeds from the 2015 campaign will go toward programs addressing food insecurity, literacy, respite care, job support for those with disabilities, home weatherization and access to child care that is both of high quality and affordable.

“Our message to everyone in Mid Coast Maine who has not yet given is: We need you, we need you, we need you,” Burke said in a United Way press release.

Mid-Coast workplaces are asked each year to make a presentation on behalf of United Way to their employees, who can donate through payroll deductions. Donations from contributors who are not involved in a workplace campaign can be sent to United Way of Mid Coast Maine, 34 Wing Farm Parkway, Bath, ME 04530.

Donations can also be made by calling the United Way at 443-9752.

Bath Iron Works employees have already reached 85 percent of their goal, according to the United Way.

The donations aid more than 20,000 people around the Mid Coast area each year, funding services at nearly 40 area partner agencies. Food and shelter, and helping young people avoid long-term problems, are among the needs the money benefits.

Last year’s goal was nearly $1.92 million, which the United way exceeded by about $1,500.
