I am voting “yes” on Question 2. I am not a wealthy homeowner. I am, however, a Portland native who cares greatly about our city. I am pleased that the Portland Co. complex is being developed, but it should be developed in a responsible manner. I am disappointed that the City Council granted the developers’ request for the rezoning of 58 Fore St. without requiring any accountability on their part. We still have no idea what will actually be built on the property.

Based on the developers’ minimal architectural renderings, all that is clear is that they are ignoring the recommendations of Portland’s Historic Preservation Board and Portland Landmarks.

A “yes” vote on Question 2 is about more than just the Portland Co. complex development; it is about requiring greater transparency on the part of developers to ensure a sustainable future for Portland.
